About
Okay, so if you’ve followed me for any span of time then here’s a little explanation of how I got here. If you’re new you can skip this blah, blah, blah and go down to the third paragraph.
So you know I’ve been a little hormonal about where exactly I’d like to blog and ahve changed my blog URL a couple of times. A long, long, long time ago, when I first started REALLY blogging (I actually had a blog in 2001, but I didn’t stick with it and used it more like a journal. So fickle, I know), I blogged at http://jessalee.blogspot.com. But then someone freaked me out thinking I shouldn’t use my name! Oh no! So I switched to Adventures in Baby Fat. And I stayed there for quite a while. But it soon became apparent that my babies were no longer babies, and it just didn’t fit right. So I changed! Still sticking with the non-name in my blog, I went to Why, Moxie?. Don’t ask me what I was thinking. I didn’t even stay there long. I realized that I needed to just be me! All those blogs are either nonexistent or just linking readers to my new spaces. So there you have it! Jessalee La-La. I’m sure I have readers a little afraid of following me again because of how indecisive I’ve been. Don’t worry, dear readers. I’ll be gentle.
So, if you’re new to me, let’s get down to business, shall we? We’ll start with the cheesiness just so we can get it out of the way, m’kay?
Who am I? I’m a woman, a mom, a wife, a daughter, a sister and a friend. I’m snarky and witty and sensitive and overweight and emotional and controlling and fun. I work at home, almost always in my pajamas. I like to swim and talk and read and write and embroider and paint and listen to music and watch TV but not usually at the same time. I reside in Oregon, a smallish town that butts up to a medium-smallish town. I’m LDS and have been my whole life. Sometimes I do it well and sometimes I fail miserably. I make fun of my husband a lot, but only because he makes it so darn easy. I like to think I have a tremendous amount of common sense, a fierce desire to do what’s fair and an unbending desire to be a better me and all that it encompasses. The latter is going to take a REALLY long time, but that just makes life all the more interesting.
Just like my blogging life, I’ve lived many places. I was a military brat and have called Oregon, Idaho, California, Washington state, Guam and Hawaii my home at different times in my life.
I have two children* (names have been changed to protect the sometimes innocent), and maybe one day that number will be more. That’s just another bit of fun you’ll get to read about if you stick around. (Who doesn’t love a rousing good story of angst about secondary fertility? Makes you want to subscribe right now, doesn’t it! Do it! Do it!)
AJ is a precocious 7-year-old with a lust for learning and all things science and/or space related. He is charismatic and thoughtful, and when he walks in the room it’s guaranteed the kids are going to go wild. He has a shockingly advanced vocabulary and a delightfully sensitive spirit.

Kalina is a feisty 5-year-old with a wild independent streak housed in the heart of a homebody. She keeps us on our toes. One minute she’s full of sass and the next she’s lovingly thoughtful and compassionate. She has a soft spot for animals and babies and pulls off the girlie-girl/tomboy combo perfectly!
Jason is the geek I never knew I needed in my life. We have been married for almost nine years. Born to American parents, he was conceived and birthed in the middle of nowhere in Australia and lived there until he was 15. From Australia, hastily thrust from one culture to another, he found himself transplanted into life in Southern Texas. Thanks to the “ya’ll talk funny” comments he got, he did his best to ditch his Aussie accent and assimilate into the Texan culture. The result has provided me with endless hours of entertainment on his behalf. He’s the master of useless facts and useful ways to fix all manner of electronic and technical components that confound mere mortals. He’s the reacher of all things too high and kills spiders with flair. Plus, he loves me with all my faults, which makes him mostly perfect in my eyes!
Pixie is our 9-year-old Jack Russell, aka Starter Child. She’s settled into her older age quite well and took being unseated from her position once the kids came around with grace. Her hobbies include barking at imaginary squirrels, tufts of fluff and dogs barking four blocks away.
Smoky is our almost-year-old Golden Retriever-Border Collie Mix. He has a penchant for all things plastic and paper and thoroughly enjoys playing with marbles. When we’re not chasing him around to pry the aforementioned things out of his mouth, he can be found begging for attention or chewing on Pixie. He enjoys barking at imaginary squirrels, hanging over the fence as the neighbor kids pass by in a plea for a scratch on the head making desperate attempts to prove he is worthy for a spot on our bed, the couch and the laps of anyone within a 30-foot clearance.
Melvin is our 1-year-old hamster. As hamsters go, he’s a hip cat who thinks those overrated Zhu Zhus have nothing on him!
