This is just crazy!
Still working tonight so no time to blog.
Never fear though. There’s a blog post a’brewing.
See you all tomorrow!
A third day of not much to say. This is the loveliness that is NaBloPoMo. Sometimes you get poo. Tonight you get randomness.
Spent the day working, doing things around the house and tending to my sick AJ. It seems like there is at least one sick kid in this house a week. Spending the night vomiting along with accompanying fever is reason enough to stay home, I’d say.
While watching Grey’s Anatomy on the laptop tonight with Jason, they showed the Disneyworld/Disneyland commercial where the kids are surprised with a mouse-shaped pizza in one scene, and then in another scene, a different family announces they’re going and the two boys proceed to dance in unabashed joy around their living room. And while watching it, I teared up. I’m such a sap.
The kids and I have started singing Christmas songs. I break out the ukulele, and they sing loudly in my ears. Last night I laughed as they belted out Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. AJ stood to my right as I played the uke. His off-key voice, enthusiastic and unashamed, rang into my ears. It was impossible to stay on tune. I loved it. Isn’t it beautiful (even off-key!) the way family voices blend? I always liked that about singing with my mom. Now if only we could get Jason to sing with us more often, we’d be set.
I’ve resorted to counting calories and am actively and consciously making food decisions — more so than normal. Today was a really awesome day. And then, here I am, up late. It had been hours since dinner, so of course I was hungry. Plus, I was almost 500 calories under my caloric goal for the day. So what did I do? I ate a small package of lemon-flavored cookies out of the kids’ lunchbox stash. Worth 250 calories. And, okay, I then ate the cheese-and-peanut-butter crackers. I just scarfed 500 calories mindlessly. Those six teeny cookies and six crackers were not worth that many calories. Yuck.
Instead of beating myself up for it, I chose to remember the following commandments:
Thou shalt not raid thy children’s lunchbox foods.
Thou shalt eat the allotted caloric goals for the day LONG before 11:00 p.m.
Thou shalt not eat 500 calories of junk when thy kitchen is full of healthy goodness and one box of not-good-for-you foods, especially when the delicious homemade burrito for the evening’s meal was a mere 247 calories.
And most importantly…
Thou shalt not beat thyself up over an evening’s snack. It is not the end of thy world or thy healthy lifestyle.
Speaking of Grey’s Anatomy, is anyone else really tired of the whole Yang “I can’t be a surgeon anymore, and I hate you Meredith” storyline? It was going so well, and now it’s getting borderline on tiresome. It doesn’t seem like it’s the way the character would react. Yawn.
Up until recently I was a Greek yogurt scoffer. Jason loved it. It seemed like everyone on the InterWebs were extolling the virtues of the delicious Greek yogurt.
I tried it. It was grainy to me. I’m a big texture person (no, that wasn’t a fat joke). I hate runny yogurt. Probably the only thing worse than runny would be grainy.
My friend Shaina at Food for My Family (too lazy to hyperlink — http://www.foodformyfamily.com) insisted I try Fage. Sure, okay. I’ll try it. Only problem is that my town can sometimes be so small, so we had to really search out where to find it. Finally we found it at Fred Meyer’s.
The verdict? Delicious. Very happy to meet you, Fage Greek Yogurt. I think the honey is delicious, especially since I can put as much or as little honey in as I like (less, please! hate it when it’s too sweet).
Are you like me? Try it. You might become a convert too.
Enough random for you? Now that’s 11:57, and I’m needing to not only go to bed but hit “publish” before the clock strikes midnight and I stay true to the NaBloPoMo rules, I had better end this.
Currently staining our fingers and lips and clothes from the pomegranate seeds we’re nibbling on. Adjusting to Daylight Savings. About to shoo the kids into the bathroom to brush their teeth, say prayers and then off to bed. I’m going to making it an early night and follow suit.
Be back tomorrow fully rested with slightly pink fingers.
Spent the night late at my mom’s house and just walking through the door. Consider me blogged!
